FAQs

In a world that has become increasingly disconnected, virtual therapy has made meaningful, high-quality mental health care more accessible than ever. While some people initially wonder whether online therapy can truly create the same depth of connection as in-person work, research and clinical experience continue to show that virtual therapy can be profoundly effective — including for trauma treatment modalities such as EMDR.

Dr. Ida Fariba offers virtual therapy that is intentional, relational, and deeply engaging. Clients are often surprised by how quickly they feel emotionally connected, safe, and understood through a screen. In many ways, online therapy allows people to show up more authentically because they are in the comfort of their own environment. Being in a familiar space can reduce anxiety, increase emotional openness, and create a greater sense of safety during vulnerable conversations and trauma work.

Virtual therapy also removes many of the barriers that prevent people from getting the support they need. Long commutes, demanding schedules, childcare responsibilities, mobility limitations, chronic illness, social anxiety, geographic restrictions, or living in areas with limited affirming providers can all make consistent therapy difficult. Online therapy creates access without sacrificing quality. It allows clients to prioritize their healing in ways that are sustainable and integrated into real life.

For couples and relationship work, virtual therapy can be especially effective because partners are interacting within their actual home environment rather than a therapist’s office. This often creates opportunities for more authentic communication patterns to emerge in real time. Dr. Fariba helps clients navigate conflict, attachment wounds, intimacy struggles, and emotional disconnection while building healthier relational dynamics that extend beyond the session itself.

EMDR therapy can also be highly effective in a virtual setting. Through secure telehealth platforms, Dr. Fariba is able to guide clients through bilateral stimulation and trauma processing in ways that are both safe and clinically effective. Research increasingly supports the efficacy of telehealth EMDR, and many clients report outcomes comparable to in-person treatment. What matters most in EMDR is not the physical office itself, but the therapeutic relationship, emotional attunement, nervous system regulation, and the client’s capacity to process experiences safely — all of which can absolutely occur online.

In fact, some clients find virtual EMDR even more effective because they are processing difficult experiences while grounded in their own environment. Rather than leaving an intense session and immediately entering traffic, public spaces, or overstimulating environments, clients are already home, where they can continue regulating, resting, journaling, or integrating their experience afterward.

Dr. Fariba approaches virtual therapy with the same warmth, presence, directness, and depth she brings to in-person work. She believes healing is not limited by physical distance. Human connection transcends screens when people feel genuinely seen, emotionally safe, and willing to engage honestly in the work.

The heart of therapy is connection — and connection can absolutely happen virtually. Whether addressing trauma, relationship struggles, identity exploration, intimacy concerns, anxiety, grief, or personal growth, virtual therapy offers a powerful and effective space for transformation.

Clients are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly to better understand their out-of-network benefits and reimbursement eligibility.

Maintaining consistency and commitment in therapy is an important part of the healing process. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice — including missed sessions — will be charged the full session fee.

Therapy is an investment in yourself, your relationships, and your long-term emotional well-being. Dr. Fariba works with clients who are ready to actively engage in meaningful growth, healing, and transformation.

For some clients, healing happens more naturally when the body is moving. Walk & talk therapy offers an alternative to the traditional office or virtual setting by combining psychotherapy with the grounding, regulating effects of movement and nature. This is an option that Dr. Ida Fariba may explore collaboratively with clients depending on therapeutic goals, comfort level, and clinical appropriateness.

Walking side-by-side rather than sitting face-to-face can create a different kind of emotional openness. Many clients find it easier to access thoughts, feelings, and difficult conversations while moving, especially when discussing trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship struggles, or life transitions. The rhythm of walking can help regulate the nervous system, reduce emotional intensity, and support deeper reflection.

Walk & talk therapy may offer benefits such as:

  • Reduced anxiety and stress through movement and fresh air
  • Increased nervous system regulation and grounding
  • Greater emotional openness and authenticity
  • Enhanced mind-body connection and mindfulness
  • A less clinical, more natural therapeutic environment
  • Improved mood, clarity, and emotional processing
  • Opportunities to practice mindfulness and present-moment awareness in real time

For clients who feel restless, disconnected from their bodies, emotionally “stuck,” or intimidated by traditional therapy settings, walk & talk sessions can feel more approachable and engaging. Being outdoors can also help clients reconnect with themselves in ways that feel expansive, calming, and restorative.

Dr. Fariba integrates the same depth, attunement, and intentionality into walk & talk therapy that she brings to all of her work. Sessions remain collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in meaningful therapeutic exploration. Whether meeting virtually or walking outdoors together, the focus remains the same: creating a space for honest connection, healing, growth, and transformation.

Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable and finding the right therapist matters. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of meaningful change, which is why Dr. Ida Fariba offers a free 15-minute consultation to help determine whether working together feels like the right fit.

This consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, ask questions about the process, and get a sense of Dr. Fariba’s approach and style. Therapy is deeply personal, and it’s important that you feel safe, understood, challenged, and supported in the work ahead.

If it feels like a good fit for both of you, the next step is scheduling your first session and beginning the process together. From there, therapy becomes a collaborative space to explore patterns, deepen self-understanding, strengthen relationships, process trauma, and move toward the life and connection you want for yourself.

Growth requires courage, honesty, and willingness — but you do not have to do it alone.
