Long Live Robin Williams

I, along with millions of others, was devastated after learning of Robin Williams’ passing.  I couldn’t watch Mrs. Doubtfire for two years after.

There were several things I learned from his passing.  One was that mental health challenges do not discriminate; every single human, whether you are a celebrity or person holding immense power, is susceptible to difficulties regarding their mental health.

I also learned that Robin was so much more than a hilarious comedian that he was remembered as.  He had immense knowledge and wisdom that stemmed from his experiences throughout his lifetime.  This quote resonated with me the most because it supports my couples work and this notion that humans need connection in order to thrive in life.

Being vulnerable in a relationship is a huge risk because of just how much power your partner holds. Your partner has the ability to essentially destroy you and leave you feeling alone in life.  At the same time, your partner also has the ability to heal you and leave you feeling loved.

As a couples therapist, I will help facilitate conversations between partners that focus on safety and connection.  I will teach my clients skills for having these conversations so that they will never feel lonely in their relationships again.
